Is the Pipeline Effecting Our Real Estate Market?
October 25th, 2016 12:44 PM by Ginger Turner
The Big Bend area has experienced a lot of publicity lately with oil drillers, pipeline digging, and solar farm installation. One of the popular questions we have recently from prospective buyers & sellers and locals in the area is whether the pipeline running through Alpine has effected our real estate market. The answer is NOT YET. Seeing as how Pumpco has already dug and buried the pipeline going across FM 1703 that runs close to Sunny Glen and we have pending sales in Sunny Glen for this month, we have plenty of buyers who are not concerned with the change. We were told in the beginning that the work force would increase and housing prices would increase but we have not experienced that sensation yet. We have buyers ask about the pipeline but their question is hardly concerning and it has not prevented them from continuing to look for property in the area. On another note, we understand that the solar field going in on Highway 67 towards Fort Stockton will bring in 250+ new jobs and those employees will need housing. I don't expect they will buy in the Alpine market because they are only going to be here a very short period of time, but it may be a reason for investors to buy homes as rental property which can improve our real estate market with sales. We already have a shortage of rental property with Sul Ross and Border Patrol and now with 250+ more jobs it will become a bigger fight for a place to live.
